Doom Reboot Announces a Release Date and Collector's Edition

id Software and Bethesda announced via a gore and demon-packed YouTube video that the long awaited reboot of the Doom franchise will be released on May 13th.
It has been over twenty years since the first release ushered the FSP genre into the spotlight. Since then, community after community has popped up to share their stories of playing the game and mods of the original source code. There are a lot of game franchises that would like to claim legendary status - this is one of the few that can.
The new game has been in development for ages, with the makers knowing that picking up a believed franchise shouldn’t be done hastily. Perhaps we are still enjoying the glow of the wasteland, but we are pretty confident the combination of id Software and Bethesda is going to produce a great game.
Of course, having Bethesda on board does mean that there will be a slough of pre-order swag and a collector’s edition.
Anyone who pre-orders the standard or collector’s package will get the Demon Multiplayer Pack, which contains “a unique demon armor set with there skin variations, six metallic paint colors,” and three logos players can apply to their character’s armor or weapons. Pre-orderers also receive six “Hack Modules” which are one-use items sure to make someone playing against you in a multiplayer match really mad.
If that isn’t enough for you, the collector’s edition will set you back $120 but you get a foot tall statue of the Revenant demon that is mounted on an LED base “with internal, slow-spinning turbine from the UAC facility on Mars.” You can see the thing below; we love this game but wonder if having this as a physical presense on our desk won’t instigate nightmares…
Doom comes out on May 13th for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
